Mirboo North - Mirboo in the Strzelecki Ranges

As mentioned in a previous article about Mirboo lot of people get it confused with the Mirboo North, which is about 9 km northwest of Mirboo. Mirboo North is located in one of the highest point on what is called a "ridge", perhaps because of the "Grand Ridge Road runs through it.

Mirboo North is a historic and picturesque country town set among rolling green hills Strzelecki Ranges, South Gippsland and a place to stay when exploring the region. Strzelecki ranges in which Mirboo North lives are named after the Polish Count Paul Edmund de Strzelecki, energetic and capable man who has researched and carried out geological research in the world. He was known to have trekked across what is now called "La Trobe Valley-" not realizing the vast reserves of brown coal deposit under his feet. On his way from Sydney to Melbourne, Strzelecki ventured through Gippsland. His trek through this wild forested region in 1840 proved to be difficult and party arrived at Westernport Bay, exhausted and hungry.
