Mirboo North - Mirboo in the Strzelecki Ranges

Strzelecki ranges in which Mirboo North lives are named after the Polish Count Paul Edmund de Strzelecki, energetic and capable man who has researched and carried out geological research in the world. He was known to have trekked across what is now called "La Trobe Valley-" not realizing the vast reserves of brown coal deposit under his feet. On his way from Sydney to Melbourne, Strzelecki ventured through Gippsland. His trek through this wild forested region in 1840 proved to be difficult and party arrived at Westernport Bay, exhausted and hungry.
